NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) Formation - 17th August, 1995 Headquarters - New Delhi Chairperson - Shri Santosh Sarangi, IAS History The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), in its previous status since 1973, was an advisory body for the Central and State Governments on all matters pertaining to teacher education. The National Policy on Education, 1986 allowed the setting up of a government authorised institution with formal powers. NCTE as a statutory body came into existence on 17th August, 1995 according to National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993. Objectives To achieve planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country.
